BAFTA 2025: Controversies and Red Carpet Arrivals

Part of the cast of Emilia Pérez arrived at the red carpet of the BAFTA Awards 2025, taking place this Sunday in London. One of the first to arrive was director Jacques Audiard, who recently stated that he feels disappointed by the way Karla Sofía Gascón ruined the work in which renowned celebrities like Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldaña participated.

The BAFTA Awards, the most important in British cinema, are approaching the final stretch towards the gala on Sunday, which will be marked by the absences of the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Catherine, and Spanish actress Karla Sofía Gascón after the controversy arising from her racist statements on social media.

The actress is not listed among the guests at the BAFTAs, despite being nominated in the Best Actress category for her leading role in the film Emilia Pérez and being the first transgender woman in the history of the awards to contend for the golden mask. The 52-year-old performer, embroiled in controversy due to a series of racist and xenophobic messages posted on X years ago, promised last week in a statement that she would remain in 'silence' to avoid harming the film in its Oscar race and would let 'the work speak for itself.'
